Excerpt from Seems So: A Working-Class View of Politics
In an Appendix I have ventured to add a letter of mine to the Times on Share Fishermen and the Insurance Act, for reasons which will be evident on reading it. Our arrangements have altered somewhat since then - and not in the direction of greater simplicity, - but I am told on the best of authority that in an examination for Insurance Inspectors, or whatever they call themselves, three questions were set from that letter, and not a single candidate, despite, no doubt, a careful study of the Act, was able to answer either of them satisfactorily!
We need hardly say that we were pleased, and not a little surprised, at the attention given to Seems So! when it first came out. Perhaps, in this cheaper form, more of our own people will be able to read it. That would please us better still.
