Excerpt from Biological Chemistry
The aim of this book is to give a readable account of the chemical processes that take place in living organisms.
Although the discussions of various problems represent my own views I have endeavoured to give references to original sources for actual statements of recorded facts and for deductions from the same. These references are of two kinds, those giving the first statement of the point mentioned, and those giving recent details or general discussions from which the reader can trace the development of the subject.
I have much pleasure in thanking the following for use of illustrations as recorded in the text: The Editor of the "Annals of Botany," Mr. J. Barcroft, F.R.S., Prof. W. M. Bayliss, F.R.S., Prof. F. F. Blackman, F.R.S., Prof. H. Gushing, Dr. R. Hutchison, Messrs. Longmans, Green & Co., The Medical Research Council, The Editor of the "Journal of Physiology," The Editor of "The Practitioner, The Council of the Royal Society," Sir E. S. Schafer, F.R.S., Prof. Sutherland Simpson and Prof. A. D. Waller, F.R.S.
