The general design of this Essay having recommended it to the attention of the Public in its first Edition, I have been encouraged to revise, correct, and enlarge it. The Fourth Book, which is now added, contains some reflections on our Criminal Laws, with respect to subordinate offences; and here, as well as in the former part of the Essay, our Penal Code is compared with Laws of other countries, where they appear to have taken cognizance of the offence under consideration.
