The Translation of the Politics of Aristotle, which is now given to the world, is, I hope, only an instalment of a larger work. It has always seemed to me that anyone who would do full justice to the Politics has indeed a threefold task, viz. to translate it, to write a commentary upon it, and finally to publish a series of essays on subjects connected with it. It is only the first, and perhaps the easiest part of the task that I have now undertaken.
