Excerpt from Lectures on Sculpture
The indulgence of the Reader is requested to many inaccuracies and repetitions which may be found in these Lectures, which are now offered to the Public just as they were written, not as examples of style and elegance of composition, but the results of many years unremitting study and application, finally brought together for the Students of the Royal Academy. The Editor has been, therefore, particularly cautious of making any alterations, lest, in the endeavour to give a smoother turn to a sentence, the sense and spirit of it should be injured; besides which, the Editor has too sacred a value for every idea and word of the Author to take any liberties of the kind.
