The changing concept of microbiology of periapical pathosis from aerobic to anaerobic organisms require consideration on the antimicrobial properties of the irrigants to eliminate or reduce the pathogens.Inspite of all attempts attaining complete sterility of the canal system is still extremely difficult , microorganisms can penetrate deep into accessory canals . Hence finding new ways to overcome this issue is essential. The objective of the present study is to compare the effectiveness of three antimicrobial solutions namely :- 1% Povidone Iodine , 0.2% Ciprofloxacin , 0.5% Metronidazole with 0.9% Normal Saline as control group ,bacteriologically through culture test against clinically isolated bacteria from patient requiring endodontic treatment. A total number of 60 anterior permanent teeth were selected from 45 patients between the age group of 10 to 15 years.Out of all the irrigants, 0.5% Metronidazole showed the maximum antimicrobial effect followed by 0.2%ciprofloxacin and then 1 % povidone iodine .Normal saline should the least antibacterial effect.
