The periodontal diseases affecting children and adolescents are numerous and can be conveniently grouped into the following entities: gingivitis; early-onset forms of periodontitis; necrotizing gingivitis/ periodontitis; incipient adult periodontitis; and periodontitis associated with systemic diseases. Further categories exist within these broad definitions; for example, gingivitis has many forms, which include gingival overgrowth and even pregnancy gingivitis. The most common form in children is puberty-related gingivitis. This work is a compilation of the most common gingival diseases affecting children.
