This book is the first of a two-part book set to help children to learn Chinese through the Bible. The book set contains about 100 stories in simplified Chinese. They are carefully selected from the Old Testament and are recommended for young kids from 4th grade and up. In the text, all Chinese characters which are not familiar to them are annotated with Pinyin in footnotes. Interspersed in the text are 50 pictures, of which some are classic masterpieces, to interest young readers. All the text is excerpted from the Chinese Union Version. As audio sources are readily available for this Bible version, readers can take advantage of them and improve their listening and pronunciation. The Bible app from YouVersion, which are available for both iOS and Android, is very good tool for audio access. The two-part book set can be used alone. It can also be used as textbooks to further help children master Chinese. For the latter purpose, three study companions (two exercise books and one test book) were also published to broaden vocabulary and to strengthen listening and writing.
