Composed in 1913 to a scenario for a Children"s Ballet by Andre Halle, the music existed only in a piano score and 93 measures of orchestration upon Debussy"s death in 1918. His former student and faithful interpreter Andre Caplet completed the orchestration the next year for the long delayed performance at Paris" Theatre-Lyrique de Vaudeville on December 10, 1919.
