Ahoy, Reader, welcome aboard! Sail with us as we venture into the deep blue sea where the sharks roam. As we enter their world in the ocean, the sharks will circle us as we circle the waters. They will also circle us with laughter. They have a sense of humor that tickles their funny cartilage while it charms our funny bones. You may ask, "What is a funny cartilage?" Since sharks belong to a class of fish that do not have true bones, they have cartilaginous (made of cartilage) skeletons. Therefore, one tickles their funny cartilage - Har har har! By the way, all the different types of sharks mentioned here are actual species. The lengths given in some of the illustrations are average lengths. Mandra lives near the Southern California coast where several species of sharks, including the Great White, live in the offshore waters. She has worked in education (mostly college level), done research in earth science and wildlife, and has an M.A. in physical geography.
