As a young child, I was able to grasp the notion that children notice everything; they have very unique perspectives on what they see in life and if provided with a safe environment, they are willing to share their insightful thoughts and advice. The major obstacle for most youth even today is that many adults still do not know how to remain child-centered when listening. In our eagerness to help, we often lead the child with our own agenda or subjective thoughts and feelings on the topic. Through this program, your school and/or community can help every child feel valued and embraced as they begin to learn who they are, how they learn, how to look at mistakes as opportunities to learn, and how to feel safe taking healthy risks. Being part of a team working with children is a gift. So align yourself, both as a role model and educator, with a strong program and clear mission as just one of the members of the "village" who helps to support the academic and social/emotional success of each and every child today, tomorrow and forever. My hope and dream is that the materials contained within this book will help you establish your own highly effective, pro-social learning and social environment within your school and/or community for every child you touch every day.
