Fun with Words contains photocopiable creative activities that will stretch and challenge more able Key Stage 2 pupils, especially those in Years 5 and 6. The activities link closely to the new (September 2014) National Curriculum for England, encouraging pupils to enjoy, understand and manipulate language. Fun with Words provides activities which pupils will enjoy doing and that will make learning about words fun. By playing with words, children will not only extend their vocabularies, improve their spelling and develop their language skills; they will also come to understand the etymology and morphology of words: where they come from, how they work and how they can be used. Children are encouraged to solve and create riddles and to experiment with words in a variety of word play activities, such as playing with words, discovering anagrams and exploring jokes based on homophones. The activities can be used with either individuals or groups. The author, John Foster, taught for over 20 years before becoming a full-time writer. He is the country?s most prolific anthologist of children?s poetry having compiled over 150 anthologies. He has also written 12 books of his own poetry for children.
