Vingie Eve Roe (1879-1958) grew up in Oklahoma Territory, married and divorced Raymond C. Lawton and in 1907 she moved to the west coast, settling in northern California. She wrote several novels from 1912 until 1957. Her works include: The Maid of the Whispering Hills (1912), The Primal Lure: A Romance of Fort Lu Cerne (1914), Eden of the Cumberlands (1914), Tharon of Lost Valley (1919), Nameless River (1923), Slow White Oxen (1950), West of Abilene (1955), A Woman of the Great Valley (1956) and Smoke Along the Plains (1957).
