(John) Oswald Frederick Crawfurd (1834-1909) was a British writer and diplomatist. He was editor of the New Quarterly and Chapman"s Magazine of Fiction and wrote several novels and stories including The Murder at Jex Farm (1895) about the experiences of Inspector Battle. He was also the director of publishing house Chapman and Hall and Black and White, an illustrated weekly periodical. His other works include: Travels in Portugal (1875), Portugal: Old and New (1880), English Comic Dramatists (1883), Beyond the Seas (1888), Sylvia Arden (1889), Round the Calendar in Portugal (1890), Dialogues of the Day (1895), A Year of Sport and Natural History (1895) and The Revelations of Inspector Morgan (1907).
