Elizabeth Louisa Moresby (1862-1931) was an English novelist who was to become the first prolific, female fantasy writer of Canada. The daughter of the Royal Navy Captain John Moresby, she lived and travelled widely in the east, in Egypt, India, China, Tibet and Japan but settled eventually in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada in 1919. She wrote under various pseudonyms, depending on the genre. As Louis Moresby, she wrote nonfiction, including The Glory of Egypt (1926). As E. Barrington, she wrote historical romances, including The Empress of Hearts (1927). As Lily Adams Beck, she wrote stories set in Asia and influenced by Oriental philosophy and religion. She was also known as Elizabeth Louisa Beck, Eliza Louisa Moresby Beck and Lily Moresby Adams. She was a staunch Buddhist and strict vegetarian, highly critical of the materialism of the West. Her works include The Ninth Vibration (1922), Dreams and Delights (1922), The Key of Dreams (1922), The Perfume of the Rainbow (1923), The Treasure of Ho: A Romance (1923), The Ways of the Stars: A Romance of Reincarnation (1925), The Splendour of Asia (1926), Way of Power: Studies in the Occult (1927) and The Garden of Vision (1929).
