This book is dedicated to my Mom, Mrs. Louise Relaford, who died of cancer May 24, 2002, and my oldest brother, Charles Henry Relaford, who also died of cancer, on December17, 2001. I will always remember Mom in many ways, but specifically for the many things she taught me in baking. Mom was a lover of baking. Some days she would be in the kitchen baking from sunrise to sunset. Mom knew how to bake the most delicious cakes. Although Mom is not with us, there are mornings when I lay in bed and I almost hear the cracking of cake pans and kitchen utensils, and then my room will be filled with the fragrance of cakes, cookies, pies and the many other pastries she used to cook. I know every member of the family misses Mom, but my Dad, Henry, still misses her baking. So, being a chip off of Mom?s block, I learned the skills of baking and whenever I go home to Georgia, I always bake something so Dad and I can recount the memories of Mom in the kitchen. Mom?s legacy of baking has been left within me. It is therefore a pleasure for me to share these recipes with you and especially with lovers of baking.
