The idea for this book struck me during one of our short excursions in our camper. We started out camping in Italy shortly after we arrived in 2005. We had a small two door Alpha Romeo given to us by my wifea??s father. With a ski box on the roof our two kids and a tent we went off tent camping from Belluno in the north to southern Italy. After a couple of years of tent camping we decided to buy a used camper and we have been traveling and camping all over Italy and Europe now for 7 years. But on this particular trip we were parked in the parking lot of an old abbey. What I noticed then was that nearly all the Italian families that were parked there with their campers just for the tour of the Abbey didna??t cut themselves short for the quality of their lunch time meal. The parking area was all grass so they brought out the tables and chairs. They put tablecloths on the tables and proceeded to have what might be considered the typical Italian meal. What I realized then was that Italians who we all know enjoy their food arena??t willing to sacrifice the quality of a meal even while traveling and camping. My goal is to present some recipes that follow this ideal that even while camping or boating or just being in a hurry, good food is important, enjoyable, healthy and possible to cook. Cooking well doesna??t have to be a burden that destroys our fun or interferes with our free time. Most of the recipes can be made on one or two burners and the time to prepare them shouldna??t be more than around half an hour or so. Some are modified from the traditional Italian recipes to suit the situation, some completely original and others are selected because of their ease of cooking. Camp Cooking Italian Style is all about easy to prepare good food. Ita??s not so much about innovative new recipes but more about showing you how you can prepare tasty good meals with little time and limited facilities that have an Italian flavor. I also hope to give you taste of the outdoor life style in Italy as we have enjoyed it over a few years through traveling and camping.
