Although 28 pages smaller than our last Volume (but as much larger than the first), this third Geological Record contains about a dozen more notices.
The saving of space is partly owing to many of the long lists of newly described fossils not having been printed in the abstracts of work, but only in the "Index of Species." This experiment, however, has given be much trouble and so little satisfaction that it will not be continued.
The only other changes are the addition of new names of Rocks and Minerals to the "Index of Species," and the shifting of that Index to the end of the text, so that the two Indices come together.
The number of journals consulted has increased, as may be seen from the many additional to the "List of Contractions;" but we have still much difficulty in seeing many journals; and I therefore again ask for help in this matter from Societies, Editors, and Authors.
Another thing needful for continued success is more Subscribers; and these ought to be forthcoming, as no addition has been made to the low subscription, though there are more than a hundred pages in such volume beyond the maximum of 300 originally promised. Every geologist should act on the advice of Poet Close, and "buy a copy of our little book."
