The Jonathan Principles Zane Causey

Let me tell you about a Bible character that most Christians only talk about in relation to someone else. Most Christians think of him as Davida??s friend, Jonathan. If you will take enough time to read the first chapter of this book youa??ll find he is the most Christ-like man of the Old Testament. He is truly has a New Testament mentality in an Old Testament body. I think it is safe to say that all the articles youa??ve read and all the sermons youa??ve heard about Jonathan, they portrayed David in the starring role and Jonathan as a supporting character. In these lessons Jonathan is the star, and David and Saul share supporting roles. In 1995 I started to write about Jonathan. I went to several religious book stores to find information about him only to discover that there are no books on Jonathan as the primary subject. I was surprised because there are biographies on most of the prominent people of the bible. Fifteen years later I made another search of the local and national book storesa??still no results. Surprised by the fact that information is limited I began to do more research. The more I studied the more my interest piqued. There are so many spiritual nuggets to be mined from these few chapters in First Samuel. I believe the most radiant jewel is the strength of Jonathana??s character. By his life and actions he lived out the principles Jesus taught a thousand years later; for that reason I chose the title, a??The Jonathan Principles.a?? Another glowing jewel is the spiritual perception this man possessed. Jonathan understood that God had two plans that affected his life. One plan was the Kingdom Plan, a master plan for Goda??s Kingdom. The second was a personal plan for his life. Long before Jesus ever uttered the words, a??Seek ye first the Kingdom of Goda??; Jonathan surrendered personal ambitions giving Kingdom plans priority over personal plans.
