Our ancestor from Kentucky, George Hume, being of Scottish descent, was a sharpshooter and fought for the Confederate Army in the Civil War in the 6th Infantry Regiment. Our German ancestor, Frederick Metz, was a stowaway on a ship coming over from Europe. When he was caught, he had to learn a trade to pay for his voyage. He became a shoe cobbler. Our ancestor, James McGavock, was born in Antrim County, Ireland, near a town called Glenarm. He came to port in Philadelphia and started work as a farmer. When James landed in Philadelphia, four fellow Irishmen were about to be sold into indentured servitude because they could not pay what they owed for their passage. James spent all of his money to ensure that they wound not get sold. He also did well for himself, purchasing many large pieces of land. He was a magistrate, and helped provision the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Antoine De Sauss Crocketagne, our ancestor from France, by tradition was one of the handsomest men in southern France. He drew the attention of King Louis by his personal appearance and love of duty. Kink Louis retained him in his service and placed him second in command of the household guards. He married the noble, Louise de Saix, cousin to the famous Marquis de La Fayette who was Major General in the Continental Army under George Washington. Antoine and his wife later were converted to the Protestant faith and became one of the French Huguenots who had to flee for their lives in to England. There he changed his name to Crockett. Our Cherokee ancestor, Catherine, was believed to have died on the 1838 Trail of Tears march from Tennessee to Arkansas. Catherine"s great-grandfather, Attakullakulla, was the famous Peace Chief of the Cherokee Nation, 1699-1797. Her great-great-grandfather, Oconostota, was the famous Cherokee War Chief, 1710-1783. Our ancestor, George Jr. (Sexson) Sexton, born 1656 in Limerick, Ireland, died 1698 at Sea off the coast of Long Island, New York.
