Electronic business (e-business) is the use of Internet-based information and communication technologies (ICTs) to conduct business such as sharing information, maintaining relationships and conducting transactions within and between organisations. Organisations of all kinds have continued to invest heavily in e-business however many organisations have struggled to adapt their performance measurement systems to the digital environment. As little research has been conducted in this field it has not previously been made clear how, or even if, existing models of performance measurement need to be modified to make them suitable for the needs of e-business.The authors have addressed these and other related issues in this CIMA Research Report based on four year of research. However, many organisations have struggled to adapt their performance measurement systems to the digital environment. Little research has yet been conducted in this field and it is not clear how, or even if, existing models of performance measurement need to be modified to make them suitable for the needs of e-business.The authors have been studying the impact of the adoption of ICTs on business operations for more than four years.
