The book is about present Socio-Economic status of the mighty Tai-Ahoms. This is the community which had ruled Assam for about 600 years until it had lost its power in 1826 as a result of Yandaboo Treaty. The Tai-Ahoms established a Tai kingdom in Assam in 1228 under Siu-Ka-Pha, the first Tai-Ahom king and ruled Assam uninterrupted for 600 years. This is perhaps only ruling community who had abandoned their language and religion and mingled with the local community.
