Book Description"WHAT IF YOU COULD LEARN TO PLAY GUITAR QUICKER AND EASIER THAN YOU EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE?"

"What if you could do this without having to read music, learn music theory or play songs like Mary Had a Little Lamb? What songs will you play? Who will you play for?"

TWO SIMPLE BUT POWERFULL SECRETS What I’m about to reveal may seem obvious, but most guitar players simply don’t think about this. There are two secrets that determine how fast you will progress on guitar: what you practice and how long you practice. That’s it. Pretty simple isn’t it? You have probably experienced the effect of this before. The more you practice something the better you get.

THE REAL KEY IS… The most important factor that determines how fast you will progress on guitar is not the total time you practice, but WHAT YOU PRACTICE. If you take a random approach to practicing you will get random results. Imagine going to the gym and doing some bench presses. Then you hit the pool and do some laps. Next you do biceps curls, hit the steam-room, do a full-out sprint, hit the treadmill and then.... First of all, you’ll be lucky to get out of the gym alive. Second, by taking such a random (and dangerous) approach you minimize any benefits you would get from the workout. The same is true of music. IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO PRACTICE YOU ARE SABOTAGING YOUR RESULTS.

HOW I DISCOVERED THIS SECRET When I first started to learn guitar I organized each practice sessionto work on what I wanted to learn and what I needed to learn. I found this to be VERY EFFECTIVE. I continued to modify my approach as my playing improved and my understanding of music increased. When I started teaching guitar, I showed my students this approach. I TESTED and RE-TESTED the FORMULA to find the MOST EFFECTIVE PRACTICE SYSTEM FOR BEGINNERS. I found that every student that used this approach got good results and some got great results. Some students mastered most or all of the material I had given them in their previous lesson. Other students mastered everything, and had gone on to do much more. It was great. I could hear consistent improvement in their playing each week. Then there were those students that did not follow the practice system. Their progress was slow at best. Sometimes they would hardly remember what was covered in the previous lesson. I would go over the practice formula again and ask if they would just give it a try. Some never would. Others would give it a shot. When they did TRY THE FORMULA, we could both hear improvements in their playing.

YES, YOU CAN PLAY THE GUITAR Guitar Quick Start takes all the guesswork out of learning to play guitar. Each lesson is organized into bite-sized chunks. You learn how to hold the guitar, hold a pick, read chord diagrams, tune the guitar and read tablature. Tablature is A REALLY EASY WAY TO LEARN GUITAR MUSIC. In tablature each line represents a string. A number on a string indicates the fret that you need to place your finger on. It’s as simple as that. This means that you can easily translate the notes from a song onto the neck of your guitar.

YOU DON’T JUST READ THIS BOOK—YOU PLAY IT. HEAR IT THEN PLAY IT AUDIO CD INCLUDED.

Lessons 4-14 each start with the practice FORMULA. The formula breaks down each lesson and tells you how much time to spend on each area. No guesswork is involved—ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PLAY. Each lesson covers chords, scales, the fretboard and a song.

In Guitar Quick Start you won’t find Mary Had a Little Lamb. Here you will learn to play some blues, rock, folk and country songs. There are however two songs that you probably won’t brag to friends about: Irish Washer Woman and Sailor’s Hornpipe. The reason they are included here is because they are good technique exercises—you just don’t have to play them for anyone other than yourself. You should enjoy playing all of the other songs and probably will start to secretly like Irish Washer Woman and Sailor’s Hornpipe once you can play them at a moderate to fast tempo. All songs are of easy to moderate difficulty, and are short and complete. I mention this because some of the other beginner books give you tiny sectionsof songs. You just get a couple of measures and then it’s on to the next example. Here you will find complete arrangements to songs, or in the case of a longer piece you will find an abridgement. I have tried to keep the songs as middle-of-the-road as possible. Obviously there is no way to select songs that every guitar player will like. The songs included here have been selected because they are FUN TO PLAY, will improve your technique, or allow you to apply concepts covered in the lessons.

A SUPER SHORTCUT Although there are many guitar chords, certain chords are used over and over again. When you "get your hands on" Guitar Quick Start you will learn the most important chords. Once you know how to play these chords you will be able toPLAY THOUSANDS OF SONGS.

I will never forget the goose bumps I got when I played my first song. I can remember it just like yesterday. There really is nothing quite like playing the guitar.
