Writing began in 1972 when I noticed my daughter was not talking by the age of three years. I tried to seek help and through numerous visits with the professionals, who are supposed to know everything, it became clear to me that I was repeating my story over and over again until I did not want to talk about it any more. I decided to write a book so when I met a new Social Worker, Psychologist, Psychiatrist, doctor, teacher or anyone remotely involved with challenged children, I would just hand them my book about Colleen. That way I did not have to say anything, they could read it for themselves. The book "Mama Loves Colleen" became more than a personal history concerning my daughter. I realized it involved the whole family. I saw it as a chance to help other people understand the problems that arise when you are raising an Autistic child.
