Excerpt from Catalogue of War Publications: Comprising Works Published to June, 1916, Compiled for the Central Committee for National Patriotic Organizations
This catalogue does not aim at being exhaustive; nor is it suggested that the classification is the best that could be desired, but it is believed that it is practical. It is hoped that the issue of a complete catalogue may be found possible when hostilities cease. In the meantime the compilers will be glad to receive information of books and pamphlets and other publications dealing with the war not at present included in this catalogue. This applies more particularly to local publications, that is, to books, pamphlets, etc., issued by municipalities, societies and local official bodies. Information of such publications should be accompanied by sufficient details for classification and cataloguing purposes. It is desired to form a catalogue, including every work of any importance dealing with the war and social problems due to the war and published before its close. In the present catalogue it will be possible to find any book included in it by referring to the author and title index; and to ascertain what books are published by turning up the broad subject headings. Professed works of fiction are not included. It should be noted that the prices of some books, while nominally remaining at sixpence, a shilling, etc., are temporarily advanced in price.
The two previous lists, compiled by G. W. Prothero, were issued in December, 1914, and July, 1915, and are included in this issue. No historical work is included which does not, in whole or in part, deal with the period subsequent to 1870.
