On the 8th day of March, 1846, having broken up our encampment on the shores of the bay of Corpus Christi, in Texas, we went in advance, with Ringgold"s battery and Twigg"s regiment of Dragoons. We soon launched out upon the broad prairies which stretch between the Nueces and the Rio Grande.
