It has been my effort in this treatise so to present the ascertained facts in regard to the variety of climate and mineral waters in the United States as to render them available for the promotion of health. To this end, wherever I have not myself observed the conditions described, I have used the observations of others, and, for the most part, in their own words, without regard to any preconceived theory of relative values; that whatever may be the difference in the views of physicians or other persons on the relative value of different climates and mineral waters in particular eases, or for the promotion of health in general, the work will be equally available for all, with regard to the data of any given place or climate, or mineral waters sought.
