Excerpt from The Diseases of the Ear, and Their Treatment
In preparing this work I have endeavoured to give a concise account of the Diseases of the Ear and their Treatment, along with an epitome of all that is of value to general practitioners who may undertake the treatment of these diseases. For special study, the text-books of Von Troltsch, Politzer, Urbantschitsch, and Gruber may be mentioned, to which also reference may be made for the original literature of the subject.
In order to make the book as acceptable as possible I have omitted, or only indicated, whatever is still hypothetical, and not in accordance with the compact and practical character of the work.
I have departed from my original intention of dispensing with Anatomy, and have placed a short anatomical sketch at the beginning of each Chapter, where it appeared necessary, for the purpose of enabling the reader to appreciate the pathological conditions. For the descriptive anatomy and embryology of the Ear reference may be made to the text-books already mentioned, and to works on Anatomy.
