There is scarcely any thing of greater importance to the welfare of individuals, the comfort of families, and the good of society at large, than the proper education of children; and yet there is nothing more generally neglected. The want of piety in the parents is the grand cause of this neglect. Can there be any thing more awful, than to see parents live in ignorance, carelessness and ungodliness themselves, and to bring up their children in the same unhappy way? It is mournful to consider, what multitudes of families there are around us of this description. Parents and children going hand in hand to destruction. Who can behold this without an aching hearty and weeping eyes?
It is to be feared, that some professing christians, are sadly deficient in respect to their duly to their offspring. The charge may be brought against them, which was once exhibited against Eli. The children make themselves vile, and the parents do not restrain them.
