Sir: - Your Commissioners, appointed pursuant to Chapter 118, Laws of 1888, entitled "An Act to provide for the erection of Memorial Tables or Monuments to suitably mark the positions occupied by the various Maryland Military Organizations, serving with the Army of the Potomac on the Battle-field of Gettysburg, and to make a suitable appropriation therefor," approved March 23d, 1888, respectfully submit to your Excellency their report as follows:
Inception of the Movement.
The movement which finally resulted in erecting the Maryland Monuments at Gettysburg originated in Dushane Post, No. 3, Department of Maryland, G. A. R., July 21st, 1886.
