О книге

Excerpt from The Journal of the British Archaeological Association, Vol. 8: Established 1843, for the Encouragement and Prosecution of Researches Into the Arts and Monuments of the Early and Middle Ages; 1902

The Eighth Volume of the New Series of the Journal of the British Arch?ological Association for the year 1902 contains most of the Papers which were laid before the Congress at Newcastle-on-Tyne, and several which were read during the recent Session (1901-1902) in London, together with the Proceedings of the Congress at Newcastle, and the Evening Meetings. Owing to the exigencies of funds at the disposal of the Hon. Treasurer, the Volume is somewhat diminished in size; but we believe it will be found no less important archaeologically, and no less interesting than its predecessors. Plates and drawings, for many of which we are indebted to the Authors of Papers, or to the Publishers of Books that are noticed, embellish its pages; and the Association is thus enabled to render the Volume attractive as well as instructive. In the department allotted to Antiquarian Intelligence will be found accounts of the latest discoveries, and reviews of recent books on archaeological subjects.

The year has not been marked by any great antiquarian discoveries; but several important "finds" have been made, especially in the way of bringing to light remains of Roman Britain - among which may be mentioned the Roman Coffin found at Enfield, the Villa in Dorset, and interesting results from the excavations conducted on the line of the Wall of Antonine in Scotland.
