In those cities and towns where the grade teachers have the inspiration and the helpful criticism and direction of a Supervisor of Drawing, the book should serve a useful purpose in supplementing the directions of the Supervisor. In schools where teachers are doing the drawing and construction work without the guidance of a Supervisor, it should easily suggest enough definite, suitable, and interesting exercises in drawing, making, and decorating to cover at least the First and Second Primary Years. It is believed, in fact, that the book will furnish a fairly complete course in the work for any primary teacher who is forced to draw upon her own resources in teaching the subject.
No teacher will be compelled to take a course in Pedagogy and Psychology in order to understand and use this book. In a manner which we hope will be found clear, direct, and pleasing it makes plain what may be done in the various subjects and how to do it. While a trained and experienced teacher may possibly get more out of it than any other, it is designed to carry a helpful message to the teacher of more limited experience and training. It will at least carry to all in simplest terms the results of approved experience in selection and in method, suggesting through the typical exercises presented under each subject a great variety of related exercises, limited only by the discrimination, the ingenuity, and the resourcefulness of the teacher.
