Excerpt from Consolatio, or Comfort for the Afflicted With a Preface and Notes
The following pages are intended for the use of those, who are under the personal experience of the Divine discipline of sickness or sorrow. They contain such variety of practical and profitable thoughts, as are adapted to the different aspects of trouble or trial; and they are designed to form, in this manner, a Manual of Devotional Meditation, which should guide souls, darkened and distracted in the deep night of human suffering, to Him, "Who," in the soul-revealing light of his discovered presence, alone, "giveth songs in the night."
