In the following pages it has been our aim to give within moderate limits an account of the principal event* in the history of the village of Petersburg. We do not hatter ourselves that the work has been perfectly done, but as much as could be obtained from imperfect records, and that which has come from various other sources has been recorded.
We wish to thank the people of Petersburg and vicinity for their hearty and unanimous support, which has made possible the success of this enterprise.
