Upon the announcement of the approaching return of the Hon. Wihtelaw Reid from his mission as Minister of the United States to France, and in view of his important diplomatic achievement in the opening of the markets of that nation to one of the most important of American products, as well as the negotiation of an Extradition Treaty with that power, steps were taken by the Chamber of Commerce to show, by some unusual demonstration, the appreciation in which such services are held.
