This book is the product of my official duties as Principal of a Normal School, the various Essays being part of a series of lectures delivered by me to the students in training. My object in drawing them up was to give increased interest to the study of education as a science, by connecting its principles with the educationists or teachers who originated them, or first wrought them out successfully in practice.
