In this edition, the greater portion of the text has been rewritten and new material added, although the general plan of the original work has been retained. Under "Laboratory Exercises" a large number of chemical equations have been introduced for the purpose of emphasizing the reactions. The lists of questions at the close of each group of elements have been enlarged. In Part V, tables of chemical compounds have been added. Part VI is entirely new. This includes the less common elements, which are important on account of their technical use. This section will be of value to those desiring an extended course in qualitative analysis.
The author trusts that this edition will prove useful as a classroom guide, and that it will offer concise and accurate information as a reference work in the field of qualitative chemical analysis.
