Excerpt from The Labor Law of Maryland: A Dissertation Submitted to the Board of University Studies of the Johns Hopkins University in Conformity With the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy
The following monograph, which is the result of research conducted in connection with graduate work in the department of political science of the Johns Hopkins University during the years 1914-17, needs little preface. The study is local and intensive in its nature but I have endeavored to draw some general conclusions from the specifical subject matter treated. The book, as its title implies, is neither a text book nor a reference book, though it may serve to a slight degree in the latter capacity, but a dissertation.
I take this means of expressing my gratitude to Prof. T .W. Willoughby who served as my inspiration and rendered me much assistance in the preparation of this monograph and also to Prof. George E. Barnett and Kiss Anna Herkner, former Assistant-chief of the Maryland Bureau of Statistics, who have ever been ready with help and information when I have gone to them with my troubles.
