To vindicate your conduct, which malignancy has endeavoured to mis-represent, or rather to excite some abler pen to do you justice, is the design of the following remarks.
On the public mind, the first impression is too often the strongest, and the most lasting. It is, therefore, necessary to do away that impression, before it shall fink too deep; and to convince every person who has been prejudiced against you, that it is in a great measure owing to your spirited exertions, that the Affairs of the Company were preserved from Ruin on the Western side of India, and the Blessings of Peace at length restored throughout Hindoostan.
