A concise and yet sufficiently explanatory compilation, was all in the Author's power, and those who derive their pleasure or profit from the City or County in question, will find it interesting from such circumstances, while the lovers of the remains of ancient architectural magnificence, will read the descriptions of the numerous vestiges in this venerable town, with that delight and enthusiasm seldom felt by those who daily witness them.
Local history can have few attractions for the general reader.
