A system of education, to be of practical utility, must be so devised as to secure the harmonious development of all the human faculties, physical and spiritual. The human mind and body are so closely wedded to each other that whatever affects the one for good or evil to a corresponding degree affects the other. It is not necessary to provide an elaborate system of physical training for people so active and stirring as are those who inhabit the United States, but it is essential that a system of intellectual and moral training shall be so constructed and applied as not to obstruct the natural growth and development of the physical powers.
