Excerpt from Unmusical New York: A Brief Criticism of Triumphs, Failures,& Abuses
This book consists mainly of the text - revised and enlarged - of a lecture which I gave at Bechstein Hall, London, in October, 1909, under the title of "The Truth about Music in America." Let me confess that that title was somewhat misleading -unintentionally, of course. I should have used the word "New York," not "America." I had forgotten that names of places which convey the same idea to the English mind are far from being synonymous to the American.
