Excerpt from The Theory of the Gas Engine
The continued existence of the Gas Engine as a competitor with the Steam, and Hot Air Engines is no longer an open question. It has fairly passed that phase of the experimental stage which determines its fitness to aid in the solution of the problem of the economical conversion of heat into mechanical work.
The improvements of the last few years have brought this motor into a conspicuous position.
We believe this essay of Mr. Clerk's to be the best presentation of the theory of tke Gas Engine that has yet appeared.
