Excerpt from Lectures on Physiology: On Animal Electricity
The following " First Series " of lectures, as now printed, contain part of the material of a course of twelve lectures on "Animal Electricity," delivered at the Royal Institution during the spring of 1897.
The six printed lectures arc by no means co-extensive with the twelve spoken lectures. The former, more especially the fifth and sixth, include matter that I should have felt it impossible to consider at length in the face of a non-technical audience, but that I nevertheless regard as essential to the further study of the subject. The latter were of necessity largely diluted with elementary explanations, and included three lectures on the electromotive action of the heart, and on the action of nitrous oxide, the publication of which is reserved for a "second series."
