That the first edition of this book was exhausted in so short a time indicates the keenness of general interest in the vital issue of the Japanese problem in California.
There are some additions which the authors wished to make had there been time to do so, but because of the necessity of printing the second edition at once, they must be withheld for the time being.
During the short interval which has elapsed since the publishing of the book, events have developed in the Western States which clearly reflect the influence of California's example and the increasing seriousness of the problem.
