Excerpt from The Principles of Electricity
This little book is an attempt to illustrate, by means of the fundamentals and theories of the science of electricity, some of the chief principles involved in all scientific investigation. It is intended for the reader of general interests; it demands of him no previous knowledge whatever of the facts concerned, but it does demand close attention and careful thought; it does not aim at providing a light half-hour's reading, but at satisfying some of the needs of those who really want to know.
In a volume of so small a size and so large a scope little attention can be paid to details. It is hoped that none of the statements made are positively misleading in important matters, but no effort has been made to attain the minute accuracy necessary in a textbook. On the other hand, the greatest care has been taken to avoid all ambiguities of statement or confusions of thought.
