Excerpt from Dawn of the Fourth Era in Surgery, and Other Short Articles Previously Published
The articles of this collection were published originally in medical journals.
Requests for reprints of two of the contributions have been made so frequently that it became necessary to publish more reprints or else put these two in book form.
The latter plan was decided upon, and the publisher asked to have the other subjects of the series put in for filling purposes, - so they need not be read.
The ones which were most frequently called for have a style of which I disapprove. Trained in the rigid science of Wilder, Gage, and Baird, I would look upon the diction of these articles as highly reprehensible if written by anyone else, but, like Antoine Bizette, who shot two deer out of season, it is all right, because I did it myself.
