At the request of Professor S. H. Clark, Professor of the Department of Public Speaking at the University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, Professor John M. Clapp, Professor of English at Lake Forest University, Lake Forest, Illinois, and many others, the author has decided to put his views on voice production into book form.
The fact that the study of voice production requires a knowledge of physics as well as of anatomy and physiology led to the collaboration of the late Professor William Hallock, Professor of Physics at Columbia University, and the author in what they agreed should be a strictly scientific investigation of the voice mechanism. Up to the time when this investigation began, the study of physics had been Professor Hallock's chief occupation.
