Born in Sturgis, Mich., 1878, Mr. Jacobs was graduated in 1899 from the University of Chicago where he had specialized in Economics and Political Science. Subsequently he obtained a position in the Treasury at Washington where he continued his study of finance. In 1900, Mr. Jacobs went to the Philippines on Government business, and thereafter visited Japan, China and countries in Europe. In 1903 he entered the Bond department of the National City Bank of New York and three years later the Foreign department. In 1909 Mr. Jacobs was sent to London as European representative of the National City Bank. His travels in Europe brought him in close contact with British and Continental bankers and gave him an intimate knowledge of their banking methods. When in 1915 the National City Bank interests acquired the International Banking Corporation and the International Bank, he was made vice-president of the former and president of the latter.
Mr. Jacobs is a member of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, the American Asiatic Association, the Society of Colonial Wars, the Sons of the Revolution, the Saint Nicholas Society, the New York Geneological and Biographical Society, the Pilgrims (of Great Britain), and is a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers, London.
