Since you are desirous, my friends, that I should relate to you, at length and in order, the things which happened to me during my journey to Rome in the time of Trajan, - notwithstanding the pain which it must cost me to throw myself back once more into many of the feelings of that eventful time, - I cannot refuse to comply with a request, the motive of which, I doubt not, is as laudable as its expression is earnest.
